Sure it can be done: a 1,000 mile - 3 day trip with no windshield. You could also tell your wife those jeans make her *** look fat.
Neither one would be a wise choice.

I rode to Dallas this past weekend with the little 4" shield that comes on the 2010 road glides. Let me tell you this, NEVER AGAIN! I ordered a 12" Windvest shield and it should be here Monday. I wore earplugs, but still the wind noise was horrible. I don't even remember it being this bad when I had my night train.

I put 40,000 miles on my Fatboy with no windshield. That included several 14 day trips. My Street Glide is the first bike I've owned with a windshield, even if it is almost useless.

My dad did this to me when he kept telling me i needed to put the windsheild on my dyna and i told him " I dont need no stinkin windshield!" (im 27, and was 25 at the time of the incident) So, for our 100 mile trip he spent 30 miles behind this sand truck. It was nasty but it only taught me to make sure i wear goggles. I still didnt put on a windshield until i got my eglide and then i cut that windshield down to 3 inches. Ive most recently bought a kw flare 6.5 and i think its the best of both worlds. Anyway, good luck with your trip. Be safe out there.

I have made several trips to So Cal from AZ without the windshield - (300+ miles each way) I prefer riding without it - but some trips are better with a windshield - did 150 miles last night and and the knats by the river were a little distracting and would have been better with the shield....Depending on the route and bugs and traffic you can choose.

With or without - Neither decision is a wrong decision for a ride. Just one decision may give you more reason to clean your smile...

Yea. 10% cahnce of rain both days. Got POURED on both days! Had welts on my face and forehead for 3 days from it. Plus, like an earlier post mentioned, you get tired quicker. Take it off for bar hoppin' around town. Leave it on for the long hauls. Just my .02

I've done 30 thousand miles with no windshield before my Ultra. My Bro-in-law has done 3, 2500 mile rides with us on his Fatboy, with no windshield. Both cases - full face helmet! You'll get a lot of neck and shoulder fatigue, but it'll be tolerable, and you can listen to tunes with ear plugs.
That being said - why would you want to?

Use it for the trip and when you get there take it off and put in the hotel room. I miss being able to do that....

I ride mine without a sheild as much as possible. But, more than 150 miles on an Interstate and I'm putting it on. You can always pull it off and leave it in a hotel room for cruising at your destinations.

That's why they call them quick detatch.

Better to have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

There's no answer to this question...pure preference...that being said, I like the feel of a warm breeze while riding...summer time = no windshield and a half helmet...Mmmmmmm....
