My bike has recently developed a chatter like sound on deceleration. Doesn't matter at what speed. When I let off the throttle I can hear a chatter from what sounds like at the back of the bike. When I engage the clutch however, it goes away. Simple clutch adjustment or something else?

How many miles on the bike and do you think that its maybe the primary chain that needs tighning?
Have you had it tightened before?
Have you opened the access cover and taken a look at the chain to see if it has over 7/8's an inch slack?
You can remove the cover and be careful you can still reuse the gasket a time or two with out having to replace it right away!
Defintely sounds as if something in the primary needs looking at. There is an HD service bulletin M-1170 that outlines a new compensating nut torque procedure. Might want to check into it at your local dealer.
Thanks for the info. everyone. I'm just about at 10,000 on this bike and will be taking it in soon for its 10K service. I wanted some info. to tell the techs what I am hearing on the bike. Hope I can get it in soon. May have to try the local HD's "quick-bay" for a primary adjustment in the mean time. I definitely not a mechanic.
