Question Need help removing baffles!!!

First of all I got my bike used so there are a few mysteries about it and one are the slip-ons as there are no identifying marks on them. I am trying to remove my baffles and so far it has been a chore. The hex bolts that were used were different sized on each side. Then one was rounded but I ended up getting it out with vise grips. There is a bar of sorts that goes from the top to the bottom of each baffle and I can't seem to be able to get them to slide out. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance!!!!

Soak the seams of the baffle/muffler with a thin penetrating oil. Inlet and outlet.

If you have to tap or smack with a hammer or tool, make very sure you do not pound the outlet end into anything like the floor. It will leave a mark.

An extra set of hands to apply pulling force when you tap is great.

Once both screws/bolts have been removed from each baffle spay the baffle edges good with any penetrating oil. As crazy as it sounds after soaking for a little while tapp the baffle inwards just a bit to break them free. Get a good hold of the baffle and pull / twist. They should come out.

From the first response I may be reading into it too much but are you implying the slip-ons should be removed? I will try some sort of penetrating lubricant but any more help while I am doing that would be appreciated!!!

You can try while they are on. It works sometimes and does keep the muffler from getting banged up.

Good luck.

Well I finally got one side out. I sprayed the outer edge of the baffles with a lubricant but that got me nowhere. I then started the bike and let it get good and warm but still no good. I had been tapping on the baffles as suggested but nada. I then took a thin blade screwdriver tapping it with a hammer all along the inside where the baffle meets the exhaust and that is how I got the one out but the other will not yet budge. I can see it has moved further back but still not coming out, YET.... With the one side out it sure sounds a whole lot more like the sound I am looking for.

Next question and keep in mind there is no special tuning done to the bike. Would there be any harm in running with one baffle should the other side become impossible and can I expect any difference in either case regarding performance?

My brother in law had a set of Rush slipons that had the bar in the baffle up and down. We threaded a rope around the bar and pulled and yank like h###. They finally slid out. His was an 09 and it was too loud for him with no baffles so since its 2 int 1 back into 2 he left 1 baffle in and 1 out. He is happy with it??????

Thanks jrtireman, your tip got me in the right direction. What I ended up doing was taking some wax covered string which I was able to double over to then form a hook. I then tied it to a 3/8" chain to wrap it around the bar in the baffle, put a screwdriver through the chain and tapped with a hammer until it came out. Now it sounds awesome!!!!!! Time to get my riding duds on and go for a ride. Yeah baby!!!!!
