IDS Installed Incorrectly
I had the IDS installed on my 07 RKC in January and noticed a chirping sound while pulling into my garage. I remembered this thread and others about bearing failures. I at first thought it was the brake pads rubbing against the rotor. I started at the top of a hill and coasted with the motor off and could here it. I also put it on the lift and spun the wheel and could here the noise. When I had it installed the dealer kept it a long time because they did not have the tool to press the bearing in place and had to order it. This makes me wonder if the installed the thing correctly.
They also adjusted the belt could the adjustment be off?

Well my story has a happy ending! I went to pick up my bike today and would you believe they didn't charge me a cent for the repair. They replaced the rear axle, adjuster cam and spacer. They didn't even charge me for the labor. I couldn't believe it. But if you are looking for a fair and honest service department, look no further than Harley Davidson of Charlotte. These guys really appreciate your business and as I can attest, they treat you right. There was no finger pointing at the other dealership and they said it was not worth losing a good customer over something like this. All of this was done without any pressure from me demanding compensation. Obviously the chirping is gone and I can definitely notice a difference when changing gears and starting from a stoplight. I guess the loose belt had come on so gradually that I hadn't noticed any change until I rode it back home today. The bike feels much tighter and has no hesitation when shifting gears.
