Default Another Newbie Question

I recently purchased an 05 FLHPI ; I assume I have the vacuum actuated fuel petcock as I can't find a manual one . My question is how does the bike switch to reserve and how do I know I'm on reserve ? Still trying to learn how far I can go on a tank . The other day the fuel light came on ; perhaps that lets me know I'm on reserve .
I went 180 miles before the light came on . Is that about average ?
: Thanks

Fuel injected bike, right? No petcock and no switching required. Should have a quick connect fitting on the fuel line. Mileage sounds about right on a 5 gal tank.

Fuel light comes on when the tank hits about 3/4-1 gal left of fuel.
180 mi before the light comes on is about right for normal riding.

Actually, (on my bike), that last quarter tank holds about 1.8 gallons with a 5 gallon tank. I usually refuel when the light comes on, and I can only manage to get 3.2 gallons in it...

I did another 76 miles after the light came on, when I tried pushing it once to see how far it'd go. And that was riding between 35-50mph. Higher speeds would suck it up much sooner, I'm sure!

Jimmer,
just be careful cause when my light comes on I only
have like a 1/2 gal left!
Learn your bike, don't want to see you run out.

That's about what I have in my tank when the fuel light comes on. Not much at all. But not all bikes are the same for sure.

+1

I rode '02, '04, and '05 RK's at work. On the '02 and '04 bikes I had 35 - 40 miles once the light came on. The first time the light came on the '05, I was out of gas and coasting 2 miles later.

On my personal '05, I've only seen the light once...and I immediately stopped for gas.

+1 on that. The first time the light came on my '05 RKC I rode 12.3 miles and RAN OUT. Had to push it the last 150 yards to the gas station.

+1 with all the above, once my light comes on I'm looking for gas, I'm not sure I could make it another 20 miles once the light was on.
