Any one repainted there heads and jugs?I like black with bright tips but rather spend the 500 or so on gofast parts. heads and jugs on or off.

 

I have painted Sportster heads and jugs,[ removed], sanded the fin edges, it came out OK. I used high temp exhaust paint. Sold the bike after about 1000 miles so don't know how they held up.

 

For the last 20 or so yrs...the Black or Silver coating is powder coating, not paint.

In order to re-coat them w/ paint, ALL of the powder coting has to be removed or the paint will flake off eventually.

 

HD's texture black paint has been used on engine applications since 1995. Prior to that it was black wrinkle. They are available in aerosol cans from the dealer. I am in the process of painting the engine on a 89 FXRS. I have to replace base and rocker gaskets anyway so pulling it down. I will be painting prior to reinstall.

 

how do you tell if it is pant or powder? the heads are at a shop and dont want to mess up Wolfgangs work,just change it to black
