Default Decel Backfire

I am riding a 2001 ultra classic injected. Am not original owner and don't know for sure what after market pipes I have. They are slash-cut ovals and have been told they may be "Hookers" When the engine gets hot, it backfires on decel. I have installed a power commander and have tried 3 different maps but problem continues. The hog runs like a top and I can live with the backfire but would like to correct if I can. Any thoughts or experience anyone has would be appreciated. Also am wondering if it would be worth the expense to change rims so I could run tubless tires.
Thanks.

I have the Hooker Tuned Flows -- killer mufflers with adjustable back pressure. When I come off the gas with the revs up she pops and crackles too, but nothing to be concerned about providing she's not running overly lean. I happen to like the sound.

FYI - Check your muffler clamps just in case; air leakings ahead of the mufflers creates popping too.

Check for intake leaks, check for exhaust leaks.

My '01 Injected Ultra does the same thing. I have the Fuel Moto Package with the jackpots. Doesn't seem to do it when it is really cool outside. Did it worse before the fuel package upgrade.

If your power commander is the same I had on my 05 ultra, you should be able to adjust that out with the small buttons on the commander. Mine did the same thing and after reading the directions, I adjusted the buttons and it was gone.

It's all in the tuning.

Decel pop is a cause of high engine RPM (as opposed to idle) and throttle position being at zero.

With stock pipes and tune the fuel injection is pretty well tuned and decel pop for the most part is a rarity.

When you open up intake or exhaust or both you change this. HD "Download" tunes or Power commanders aren't a "dyno tune" thus they are close but not perfect.

One way to for sure get rid of it is a HD Race Tune from a PROPERLY TRAINED technician. This requires the proper dyno, sniffers, and a process.

Mainly there are two ways the decel pop can be tuned out, tune it to dump extra fuel at 0% throttle or lean it out considerably. The ladder is normal.

Apparently you can do this with the power commanders and what not but best way, is a good race tune!
