Can someone direct me what can be done to increase power to my stock twin 88 for under $1000?
If you can do your own work you can get a cam kit for around 800 but then you'll need a tune...or you can give jamie over at fuelmoto a call and see what he suggests.
Get a better air filter, a set of slip ons, or if you really want cheap, punch out the center baffles in your stock cans.
Then, a power commander III from Fuel Moto and you WILL feel a difference.
Next, cams and cam plate/tensioner upgrade. Your motor has the spring tensioners and they are a ticking time bomb. When they go, so does your oil pump and maybe more. My spring tensioners were looking really bad at 29K miles when I pulled them a couple days ago.
95" big bore kit can be done too. I'm tearing into the engine and doing the jugs and cams at the same time. I'm cleaning/replacing seals and various little bits here and there as I go. I didn't buy everything at once, just started a year ago acquiring various kits. Check Ebay for big bore and cam plate upgrade kits. Zanotti's HD online for OEM and SE parts at a discount.
You can do it easily under $1000 with a power package from Fuelmoto. If it's not enough extra power for you, you haven't wasted money. It's stuff needed anyway.
Whatever you decide, make sure that the mods are good for future upgrades if you are on the fence about doing them. For instance, if you decide to go to a 113" in the future that requires timing adjustments, then a PCIII may not be the best choice. I did the stage 1 and it wasn't enough, so now I have a PCIII for sale. Probably cost me $200.00 in the long run assuming I can sell the PCIII. As far as an upgrade that will get you more power, there are alot of choices and tons of info on the site. I was happy with my choice for stage 1 in sig below. I think someone has the fever!!!! Good luck with your mod.
