Default Upgrade Time

I got a new PCIII for my 2000 Road King Classic on ebay for 165.00

I plan to add true duals and slip-ons later down the road as $ allows. My question is Do I need to download a map for a stock setup or will it be plug and play till I add upgrades. Also will I see a differance with just the PCIII

thanks in advance
