The front brake switch could have been damaged when the right side controls were apart (especially if a shim wasn't used to prevent damage)so your cruise control may not work because it thinks the brake is being used.
I will try the lash when I get home from work, I do have brake lights, and my throttle cables where pretty loose. You guys are great for the info. More info is better than none.
Also check the pins on the CC module connector to ensure ALL pins are making good contact. (When I had CC issues, it was because I was changing the orientation of some of the pins when I performed the maintenance intervals with my DVM probe. It finally stopped working. Then I straightened out the pins and all has been well ever since.)
Happened to my 2005 FLTRI.. first the cc would just disengage while riding, then one day it just stopped engaging. Luckily it was under warranty and after they replaced the module and the same things happened, they found the set button defective. Replaced the module again and a new set button and been working since.
Just went through this on my 06 RKC, about 12K miles. First thing is to check throttle adjustment....simply adjust at the upper cable adjustment. too loose and cruise will not set. Also, on the right side of the neck near the steering pivot in line with the throttle cable is the roll off switch. It is a two blade switch...you can see it from the right side of the bike. Unplug it and try your cruise again. if it sets, that switch may be bad. You can run with that switch unplugged to allow the cruise to set, but when you back off the throttle, the cruise will not disengage and you will have to disengage with the brake pedal or lever or shut it off. Also check to see if you brake light is working. If you do a search on this forum, you find a lot of info on cruise control....thats how I got mine straightend out.
Update: To all that helped. I tried to set the lash as the manual said, and it would not work, my cables were adjusted properly. I also bought a new set switch, tried swapping that out. That wasn't the problem either. I must not have seen the post about the roll off switch. By unpluging that the system works great. As noted that you would have to hit the brake to disengage the system. I put 1000 miles on last weekend cruising through Montana and I was greatfull I had my cruise.
Ok so my 06 RK Classic's cruise has completely went out the red light isn't even on. I checked the fuse and it's good even switched it out. Now my service light comes on for a second after I fire it up. Any help is more than I'm getting from the dealer.
