I have an 07 road king classic. My cruise control stopped working. Has anyone experienced this problem? The power comes on but it will not set. Is it the set and resume switch, or just cable adjustment. Is there an ohms reading for the set and resume switch? I do have the factory harley manual but it is a bit vague on this subject. Any help would be much appreciated.
You may need to re-zero out the unit. Gives it a baseline for cable slack.
Will look for instructions and post. Did you have your battery out or work on the bike. See if the throttle cable from the unit is still connected at the TB
I had this happen and it was a wire in the right hand handlebar control unit (run/stop/front brakes, etc) that was pinched and shorted. Did you happen to open it? Are your brake lights working? The cruise will not come on if it thinks the brakes are engaged. Is it throwing any codes?
That sounds like great help. When I was adjusting my throttle cables last night the cruise control cable had about a 1/2" of cable sticking out, this lash adjustment would take the slack up?
I did take apart the controls last night to inspect the wires and nothing looked damaged or out of place. When I bought my bike I had the dealer put the new bars on. The cruise control worked just fine untill last summer. It would set and stay set for a short time then it would kick off. The other day it would not set at all.
I bought this bike three weeks ago. On the first ride I set the cruise and it worked perfect. I ran on cruise for about ten miles. I stopped and shut the bike off for about an hour. I started the bike back up and got back on the highway. I hit the cruise and the red light lights up but the green never comes on. Its never worked again.
Just went through this on my 06 RKC, about 12K miles. First thing is to check throttle adjustment....simply adjust at the upper cable adjustment. too loose and cruise will not set. Also, on the right side of the neck near the steering pivot in line with the throttle cable is the roll off switch. It is a two blade switch...you can see it from the right side of the bike. Unplug it and try your cruise again. if it sets, that switch may be bad. You can run with that switch unplugged to allow the cruise to set, but when you back off the throttle, the cruise will not disengage and you will have to disengage with the brake pedal or lever or shut it off. Also check to see if you brake light is working. If you do a search on this forum, you find a lot of info on cruise control....thats how I got mine straightend out.
