As raw material prices used to manufacture tires continue to fluctuate, Harley Davidson Genuine Motor Parts is increasing prices on select tires effective July 27, 2010.
Geeze, I thought the syn 3 was already overpriced. I haven't priced the tires on the new touring bikes yet but I have heard they last much better than the previous tire size.
I really don't know how they sell many tires now, as high as they already have them priced!
GOOD point.
I'll share an example to emphasize it too. Last year I picked up a giant nail (didn't know that came that big!) in my rear tire with less than 1K on it. That sucked of course. I call up my local dealer and inform them that I've already removed the wheel from the bike and asked how much it would be so I could have my girl drop it off while I was at work. Are you ready for this? $335!! I told them "wait, I already have the tire off the bike". Their reply was "we still have to dismount the old tire then mount and balance the new one, and that's a minimum 1 hour charge". I ordered a tire elsewhere, had an indy mount it all for about $100 less. Still, over $200 for one tire is nuts.

I have a post on here about my experience getting an e-3 installed on my back rim. I pulled the wheel, had it in the truck and took it to the dealer. They refused to install a brand new, Dunlop E-3 tire that I brought with me because I didn't buy it from them.
Sooo.....I don't deal with their service dept for ANYthing anymore. An Indy mounted and balanced the tire no problem, while I waited, took maybe 30 minutes and didn't cost very much.
$335 for one tire, damm sam, for bike tires there are alternatives, and i'm not talking about the car tire line of thought. just that there are many other places that will sell you the right tire for your bike at a realistic price. dennis kirk is where i bought the dunlop E-3's and the harley shop installed them for me.
