Default 2009 ultra oil change

I've changed my oil several times now, on my 2009 ultra, and come up with the same thing. I let the oil drain for at least 1/2 hr. change filter. when I add the new oil, and put in 3 quarts, it comes up to 3/4 quarters on the dip stick. If I add 3 1/2 quarts like the manual says too, I end up with it over the dip stick and that's when it's cold, much less hot. Does anyone else find that 3 quarts is enough, and doesn't that seem like the wrong amount of oil, when they say it takes 4.
Thanks for any help Jonnierock

Do you check it after it runs for a minute? I pre-charge my oil filter and that takes about 1/4 to 1/3 a quart. The 4 quarts takes into account the amount of oil obsorbed by the filter media. If you check it without running it right after you fill it the oil tank is going to have more than the "FULL" amount until the media soaks it up.

My last 3 to 4 changes have been the same. Let drain, replace filter, add 3 quarts of oil, run down the road for a couple of miles, then check. always comes out the same, it comes up the dip stick 3/4 of the way. 3 and half quarts puts it over the full mark. Just seems like 3 quarts is a little short. My 2006 ultra took almost 4 to bring it to the same level. Does anyone else find 3 quarts to be enough for an oil change in their 09 ?
Thanks Jonnierock

I found the exact same thing. I bought 4 qts and used only 3 (part of the 4th but not half way). I checked 2 different ways and both said it was full. Could just be a HD conspiricy to sell us 4 qts (LOL). I wouldn't put it past them

When you drain the motor oil you only get the tank & lines. There will be over 1/2 quart of dirty oil left in the system. I think several folks make a total oil change kit. Check www.roguechopper.com. They call it "SCAVENGER". I

Same thing here, only takes a bit over the 3 quarts. '09 Electra Glide Classic. Nothing to worry about. Main thing is, don't over fill. I run mine at about 2/3 up the dip stick and all is well. Had Black Hills HD do an oil change while touring through that area (Rapid City SD) and they filled it to 3/4 up the stick. Had oil blow out the air filter while riding hard on way home. Not a problem but it is a mess to clean up. HD manuals seem to be written for a new, dry engine.

Yep 3.5qts is too much on my '09 EGC. Run between 3-3.25 qts is about right from my experience.

yep, drop 3 in and let er bump . Filter differences have less than an ounce of vol. difference in the ones I've used. I kinda like the chrome HD so that's the one I normally stay with .
Happy rides
