Default Primary problems

Hope somebody has a suggestion . I’m leaving for Sturgis Thursday so I decided to change all the oil today before heading out on a 5000 mile trip. When I drained the primary oil it smelled burnt, I have been hearing a kind of whining sound when the bike is real hot. The battery is good, seems to be charged so I don’t think it’s the stator. What else could it be, clutch pack is where the smell is the strongest but I don’t have the outer primary off. Any help would be appreciated.

Need more information here. Age of bike, current oil used, time since last change of oil, etc. etc.

Sorry I guess I was a bit distracted with trying to figure this out.
2006 Ultra 28,000 miles harley primary oil last changed 25,000 miles I would not have normally been changing it but wanted fresh oil for the trip.

Hmm, there's not much reason for it to smell burnt unless the clutch has been slipping. Have you noticed anything like clutch slippage and when did you start hearing the new whine? When was the clutch last adjusted?

H-D Formula + tends to smell that way after a few hot miles.
Adjust the clutch, fill her up and ride.

Burnt smelling primary oil is usually from slipping the clutch. I have changed it on police bikes after a training course and it smelled like burnt wood. I would change the fluid adjust the clutch and forgettaboutit.

clutch was adjusted at 25,000 when the oil was changed, haven't noticed any slipping. I started noticing the whine maybe a couple of thousand miles ago and only when its really hot. It almost sounded like an 18 wheeler whine but not as loud of course but that kind of noise. Noticed more when the clutch was pulled in slowing down, but then the bike is to loud to hear it any other time.
