Two Safety Tips
What I have been doing all along and not realizing it is slowing down at intersections so that I don't arrive at the same time as an oncoming car.
Statistics show that most motorcycle accidents happen when an oncoming car turns left across the path of a motorcycle. If the "doesn't see you", they will turn in front of you and by slowing down a little you have time to react. If the car does see you and does not turn, you cross the intersection safely.
It does not take much. You don't need to hit the brakes, just easy off the throttle. Try it the next time you see a car approaching.
My second safety tip I learned from my daughter. She recently started riding with me. She once saw a race bike rider with a mohawk attached to his helmet. She wanted one, so I got her one.
I notice people pointing at her helmet. Kids in cars are telling their parents to "look at that." Anything to be seen helps.
Not sure if I'd want to try the mohawk though.
