Default Problems with HD's Detach. Harness Kit, what am I missing?

Though Dawg would know in mere moments, I'm in the WTF stage of this one.

Got an '09 Roadie with a factory CB on it and I picked up an Ultra style Tour-Pak that I plan on running as a detachable item. Easy enough right? Should be. I have the overlay harness and whatnot that I'll be installing soon. But for now I was about to do a dry run of sorts by just getting the Radio & CB working for an overnight thing with the club. This was to give me a feel for what she'll feel like on the road.

I bought the 70032-09 'Detachable Tour-Pak Harness Kit For Ultra Models'. This really should be a cinch to install, but I think I'm missing something and I'll explain why. On number 12 in the instructions it states "Install the AM/FM antenna jumper cable from the Detachable Tour-Pak Kit by threading the knurled nut onto the Tour-Pak AM/FM/ antenna base. Tighten the nut securely"

My problem?? There "ain't" no AM/FM jumper cable in the kit, nor is there one listed in the parts list. So, WTF?? Among other things of course.

The bracket HD gives you for the CB (right) side (mounts on saddlebag support) is WAY taller than the left side and that will prohibit me from installing the Street Glide rear facia that I have. How do I know? My girl's SG had the same problem with hers. More importantly, the kit has two cables, both described as "CB antenna", one Male-ended, one Female-ended with both having one end that's threaded like the OE cables. Inside the Tour-Pak the Radio mount requires a threaded cable, yet the CB side has a slip-fit cable-end. Even that slip-fit end makes no sense as it would be buried once you install the liner thereby rendering that particular quick-disconnect moot. The kit also gives you one cable/antenna adapter where it looks like you might need two. MOST important is that damn jumper cable they refer to that doesn't exist. What gives? (side note, I purchased an additional radio antenna cause it appeared I needed it).

Without making this way too long, this kit sucks, is incomplete, and frankly doesn't make sense. I may have been sick for the past 10 days, but I don't think I'm that foggy brained where this kit "will" work. What am I missing?

I hate when Harley sells you something that absolutely requires an additional part that doesn't come with the item you just purchased. Include the damn thing and adjust the price accordingly. OK, I've vented. Now, HELP!!

(pics show the difference in the brackets and the wires in the kit)

For the CB antenna mount, HD has p/n 76410-09, which is for "'09 and later FLHX, FLTR, and FLTRX models." That should solve your CB antenna mount issue. If you don't need anything except the bracket, you can probably buy it separately, not the whole kit. It's not surprising that the kit you bought, intended for Electra Glide Ultras, Ultra Limiteds, and RG Ultras (none of which have the SG/RGC fascia) would have a CB antenna bracket that will not work with the fascia.

The AM/FM jumper is (probably) in the 53246-09A, Detachable Tour-Pak Mounting Rack kit for Electra Glides. The kit you purchased is for use with this Detach Kit when used on Ultra, Limiteds, RG Ultras to address the CB antenna issue, rear lighting, and passenger controls.

The CB extension cable in the kit you purchased should get the CB antenna connection outside the tour pak where it can be easily disconnected; rather than having to remove the liner to get to the disconnect.

Good luck with your project.

Carl

PS: I purchased a antenna cable extension at an auto shop with Motorola connections to get the tour pak's CB antenna cable connection outside the tour pak.

Her new antenna mount is shorter, but now it's merely as short as the radio antenna mount, and they are both too tall. However, only by about 1/2" instead of 2". The bottoms of her antenna's are jammed against the underside of her facia. You'll get this problem when installing the saddlebag guards. Mind you, H-D provides you with a new bracket specifically for this install, and it's too tall>

The kit you purchased is for use with this Detach Kit when used on Ultra, Limiteds, RG Ultras to address the CB antenna issue, rear lighting, and passenger controls. <You know what, even though it doesn't specifically say it, it mentions "relocation hardware" and that MUST be the item I need. However, H-D doesn't have a parts breakdown on this item as they do on some others, so, I can't tell what p/n's they might be. If anybody has done the "53246-09A" kit, please let me know what those parts are as they pertain to the AM/FM relocation hardware. When I ordered my bits-n-pieces a while back, they failed to mention I'd need all I bought PLUS a part from another kit. Even I should have looked for that one. Doh!>

The CB extension cable in the kit you purchased should get the CB antenna connection outside the tour pak where it can be easily disconnected; rather than having to remove the liner to get to the disconnect.<The CB extension cable is 2 pieces. Each piece has the regular screw-on end (the 90 degree end), then on the other end each has a slip-fit connection. One being a Male and, and one being a Female end. The cable inside the Tour-Pak has a Male end. Ok, just use the cable with the Female end, right? Of course. But since the location of that connection will now be under the liner (due to how short the lead is inside the Tour-Pak), why make it a slip-fit disconnect when you not only wouldn't have access to that connection, you'd have to unscrew the antenna jumpers from the bike each time you remove the Tour-Pak anyway. Dumb design. Inside the T-P the radio antenna secures nicely onto a mount while the CB antenna is only held in place by those bend-over cable clips.>

Good luck with your project.

Carl

PS: I purchased a antenna cable extension at an auto shop with Motorola connections to get the tour pak's CB antenna cable connection outside the tour pak.
<All it seems to need is an extra 76219-00 'Antenna/Cable Adapter' (one is provided in my kit) to aid in the install of my extra radio antenna cable I purchased. I know the antenna's are different, but it appears this adapter works for either. However, I still don't get the two different CB cables provided. Take a look at the parts breakdown. Odd.>

Having said that, thanks for chiming in to help. It's always appreciated.

Oh, and "dansflhti Da Butcher.....I don't have any info for you....but congrats on making it into AIM." Thanks Bro!
