First snow!?
Yep...started out as a perfect fall morning. 71 degrees in Tahoe at 10AM...no clouds, lake like glass. Rode around the lake & up to Nevada City for lunch...hot, dry, no sign of weather. Then, outside of Truckee, here came the thunderboomers. No gear...the torrential downpour complete with lightning, thunder & wind turning to hail/sleet/snow on Hwy 28 along Tahoe's north shore. Nearly 120 miles of wet & wind. Just an invigorating fall day in the Sierras. Record high temps all week! Oh well, 'tis the beginning of the season...snow capped peaks tonight.
It snowed September 27th pretty good here in Alaska. I'm not talking in the mountains either... I'm at sea-level! A little better since then... high 40's, low 50's. The snow is creep'n down the mountains though, wont be long befor its all over here!
There is definitely beautiful country out that way but you can keep it...Snow already... On another note, I have a business aquaintance that lives in Alaska who was telling me about the snow on the 27th. I guess there's no use in trying to keep your bike really clean since there seems to be a lot of precip in AK and/or the pipes may freeze if you try to wash it...lol
You got that right! Now, time to tackle a really, really messy EGlide! And to think it was soooo clean this AM...all Turtle Wax ICE'd & Nevr Dull'd! Such is life...needs a good 'nut & bolt' anyhow! Just need to be a bit more prepared for the upcomin' inclement weather. Ride safe, y'all.

As short as our riding season can be for most people in Alaska... Alaska has more motorcycles, and more Harley's "per-capita" than any other state (thats a fact reported somewhere I seen). And when I said "a short season for some riders", thats not true for all Alaska riders. There are guys that ride trikes all winter long (sub-zero and snowing like hell!), and Urals (Russian motorcycles) with sidecars. I've even seen dualsport 2-wheelers with studded tires in the middle of winter up here! Even a fair-weather rider here rides until it drops into the low 40's. In the spring (March if were lucky)... if its above 38 degrees, the bikes are everywhere. Amazing how warm 38 degrees can be after a few months of freezing arctic weather!
Alaska riders are a pretty proud bunch with a huge appreciation for this amazing God-given land to ride upon. Surprisingly enough, most bikes up here are kept in mint condition. Other than the sometimes dirty/dustry road construction areas, the weather is not that hard on the bikes. The only dirty bikes you really see up here are the BMW GS guys. They're like those "hippies" that drive Subarus... wearing thier grime like a badge of honor, LOL!
Got to love riding in Alaska, but I have to admit... I wouldn't mind a few weekend rides to Daytona, Sturgis, or Laughlin once in awhile. Or to cruise around the strip with just jeans and a t-shirt. We don't get to do that often up here.
