I have a set of painted lowers with vents on order. So until then I was going to put some HD Soft lowers on. I did a search and that got me really confused.
Here in MI this time of year it can be 45 or 75. I would like to leave them on as the reason I am getting lowers is for the wind noise as I have ringing in my ears. My intent is to try and make things quieter which I have been told this will do.
Sooo.. Can I just leave the soft lowers on until I get my painted lowers or will my bike over heat?
I have an oil temp in my dash - I just got home from a ride up through UT/MT and back to ca. ran the soft lowers with temps from 50 to about 75 - Oil temp was never a problem, at 75, I pulled them off.
I ask my Indy and he said, should be no problem with them at 75 for a while.. just keep an eye on the oil temp.
Now if you want to follow the inst to the letter.... don't use them over about 55... I say BS..
I put mine on last week when the temp was 27 deg.
Went for a ride with the S/O Thursday. When we started out, the temp was 45. It got up to around 75 or so by mid-afternoon. I left them on the whole trip (about 250 miles). Didn't notice any overheating problems.
