I'm with the just put a new tube in it crowd, especially if there's no damage to the sidewall.

I lost my rear tire to a nail about a month ago. I was able to make it to my Indy before it went flat, his shop was right down the road. I just wanted to plug or patch the inside of the tire because there was only 6000 on it. He's a friend of mine and said he would do it, but recommended I put a new tire on. Not worth a high speed blow out. I put a new tire on.

I picked up a screw a couple of months ago but got home before I noticed it was going flat. I have a tubed tire and it was in the tread so I just went with a new tube, the sidewall is a little iffy, if it's not a tube tire I would not do it unless maybe you put a tube in it.
You were lucky to have a trailer, I had to call a tow truck.

Unbelievable! I just picked up a screw in my rear tire. It only has 500 miles on it! I just installed it a few weeks ago. My wife is insisting I get a new tire. I just don't have the cash to shell out another $200 bucks for a tire at this time. So I either patch/plug it, or let it sit until I can pop for a new one. Now, bear in mind this is the start of the best riding weather we get in Florida. Sooooo, I'm going to get it plug-patched and hope for the best. ( I do have life insurance, so you'd think the wife would support the patch route...)

Plug it and ride it , been doing it for years on everything I own and haven't had the 1st issue! Plugged my rear a few weeks ago and have put nearly 1300 miles on it since loaded heavily 2-up and it hasn't lost a lb. of air!

MY BELIEF IN GOD HAS JUST BEEN RESTORED! I pulled the screw out of my tire, and it was only about 1/4 of an inch long! It did not puncture all the way through! WOO HOO! So now I will just fill the small hole with black liquid rubber and ride on! What a relief!

It came into vogue with liability & lawyers, not safety. I just replaced the rear on my Limited at 15,000 miles - I plugged it at 2,750.

I'm still waiting to hear from "the 3rd cousin of a friend of my brother's room mate's girlfriend who had a friend who heard of a guy who patched his tire and was killed when it failed the next day". https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...-puncture.html
