Default What's after Stage I

I ride an 09 Ultra and have the Stage I and HD download with monster ovals. I would like to increase power. What is the next step in gaining more hp?? Would a race tuner and dyno tune be the best move?
Thanks for your advice! Maggie

only get a few more hp with a real tune and its alot of $. add cams and fuelmoto powercomander with preloaded map.the money u save on the dynotune will slightly offset the cost of the cams.

Stage 1 = AC, exhaust, ECM tuner (SEST, TTS) or add-on tuner (Power Commander, etc)
Stage 2 = cams
Stage 3 = big bore kit

The next step to really wake up your bike would be to install a set of "bolt in" cams. You can do this without pulling the heads. You will need to have your bike dynoed to get the best performance.

use the search button on the browser bar.

You can type in "stage 2 ultra" etc and it will return alot of good discussions that have already been had on the topic.

Lots of good links and advice to be had that way !

As others have said, a hotter set of Cams, or bigger pistons/jugs e.g. "big bore" kit would be your next logical progression.

Although, alot of folks end up $3k+ into stage 1-2 mods before learning enough to decide what they really want to do .

Best advice i could suggest would be find yourself a good local mechanic, even if its the dealer, decide how fast you wanna go and, put together a to-do list.

Good luck. And just like the real thing, "Speed" is "addictive"

Wink Research, research, and more research!

Doing your research using magazine articles, this forum, and maybe your local Indie shop will really help you get the most from your Stage 1.
I see you got the Stg 1 "download". After several searches, I found out what this actually did, and decided not to get it, but to spend the $$ on a more viable option.

Keep trolling and you'll find the best options for your Stage 1 adventures!

Cheers...

Default Thanks

Sounds like a good winter project, do my homework and then get it right.

The guys at my dealership really talked long and hard about taking OFF my power commander and use what was already in the bike, i.e. do our download. I really don't want to go back to the power commander after getting the download and going that direction. I would like to build on that decision if possible............

Can you do cams without a race tuner?

You got stage 1 correct...2 is somewhat correct...3 is not correct.
Stage 1 is AC, exhaust & fuel manager.
Stage 2 is cams but also usually a big bore upgrade as well.
Stage 3 is head work added to all of the above.

If you want more power then a 103" is the next step.
