I need a little help. From time to time, first thing in the morning, my 2000 flhr will not shift out of first gear. While moving I have to run it up to the top of the RPM range and let it come back to idle. Usually only takes one time doing this. After this, for the rest of the day, it does great. No problems at all.
Today I had to do this several times, went almost 1 mile. If I am sitting still I can change through all the gears no problem, but as soon as I start rolling it will not shift. It is almost like I have to warm up the transmission before it will shift into second while rolling. I don't know if my description makes sense or not. Just looking for a little advice of what it might be.
check your primary chain and what kind of oil do you use in the primary , I have found the primary has more to do with the shifting than the trans , I run 20 50 in the primary , tryed trans oil in it and the bike did not like it. make sure your chain is adjusted right and try different oils till you find one it likes
I have and 02 Road King, shifted a little stiff from the time I got it, changed trans to Spectro synthetic 75/125 and primary to Spectro primary blend, turned smooth as silk.
Maybe use a 90 wt tranny oil full syn, make sure the primary level is correct...regular primary HD fluids should be fine but make sure the clutch is properly adjusted. I have ridden in 17 degrees and started in the cold like that with no shifting issues....You might try to pull the clutch in and out a few time before you actually leave...I like to hold the clutch in and give it a few throttle shots first before i shift and SMOOVE....
