Default Oil Temperature

Anyone know what the normal operating oil temp range is for the '07 RKC? It's not in the owner's manual. Once warmed up, the '06 Sporty in my garage runs about 190-210. The liquid-cooled Honda's I used to own ran 170-190. My RKC is running 240-255. What do you think ... is that too high?

The air cooled Harleys run hot, a liquid cooled engine can control the engine temp. 240-260 is normal for an 07 with regular oil. Using a good 100% synthetic oil like Amsoil 20W50 motorcycle oil http://www.amsoil.com/products/streetbikes/index.aspx will help the engine run cooler and have better protection against wear, especially in hot conditions and cold start.

Seems high to me! While I do run a Jagg vertical mount Oil Cooler, my 88 is tweaked getting 87 torque and 80 HP. I regularly run at 90 mph in 100 + degree ambient and my oil temperature runs between 190 and 210. There was a time whem I was running up tp 260 but that was due in part to a poor tune, way too lean and regular HD Oil. I've been running SYN3 for the last 25,000 miles.

I have an 05 Ultra, first Harley and was shocked at how hot she ran. New bike with temperature tested thermometer it never ran below 265, and have seen it well above 280. At 1K service had stage 1 kit done with SE slip ons, HD syn oil in all three holes, temp was still running around 260 - 270. Dealer said it was normal.

I bought RJ's heat shields and this made a world of difference to me, but of course not the bike.

I switched over to Mobil 1 V-Twin in 2 holes and Red Line Heavy Shock. This lowered the temp a bit. The big difference was a PCIII.

Some folks here suggested the bike was running lean and asked if she was popping on decelleration. She was a bit, or at least I didn't notice it much. I plugged in the PC III with the map for my set up pre-loaded (just plug-n-play) and it made a world of difference.
I didn't realize how much she was popping until I rode her with the PC III.

Still running Mobil 1 and the Redline, with PC III last check was 245 ish.

With HD syn in 3 holes and wally's gauge in 90 degree heat mine runs 220 ish if I'm 65 MPH for more than 30 miles. Same conditions with adding Prolong to the engine oil it runs 210. I have stage one and rineharts. I'm also adding a PCIII hopefully it shows up today.
