Just have to say, your bike is really super sharp!
I understand what's been said, it seems the customizing, personalization of our bikes is a big part of the fun and satisfaction of having one. That being said you will probably not be truly happy until you get yourself that new ride and begin the journey again.
Good luck ride safe and by the way, Happy Veterans' Day and thank you for your service sir!

Tough call, the guy who's interested in your bike could probably find a used 2010 SG for 18,900 - If your bike was mine and I wanted a new one bad enough I'd try asking 17,000
but wouldn't turn down 16,000.

Hell if it was me...I'd hang on to your '08 rather than go from one SG to another new one.

Red face Why sell it?

What is your motivation for selling it? $$? New project bike?

You have done so much work and spent allot of hard earned $$ upgrading it.

Just curious.

if he pays you close to what a brand new one costs GO FOR IT, ya had fun with it so that accounts for losing money on the upgrades...which almost always happens,,,,BTW nice scoot...... maybe just keep it

You have what most would call a "TO DIE FOR RIDE".

I can understand wanting a new and improved model.
My last few bikes I wanted to sell while there was still some value in them. For me it worked out pretty good. By value I mean each year it is of course another year older and that usually equates in more miles and more sun fade, scratches ,wear and tear etc. usually reducing the value.
Were it me, to come up with a value, I'd take the two or three book values and average them. Add up any upgrades not listed in the books and cut in half. Then I'd shop it with the dealer to see what they would offer or allow on trade.
That should give you a good idea of fair market value.
If it were me I could then price the bike where I would be comfortable selling it, allowing 6-8 months or longer if it sells great if not then see what the '12s have to offer.

I guess it all comes down to your motive for wanting to sell. Make a profit, recoup what you put into it, or get what you can so you can trade for something else.

Prioritize!

Thanks for all the replies.
Im thinking of selling just to simply upgrade. The bike is pretty much where I want it. Just a couple little things left to do.
The dealer said they would give me$ 16500 on trade. That was the first number they gave to me. I didn't try haggling with them over price because I'm still unsure of selling.
It would drive me nuts selling the bike to my buddy. He is the kind of guy who doesn't clean his bike very much and I would probably go crazy seeing the bike all dirty. I even told him that.
He has been on me for about a year to sell him the bike. He really likes it.

An 08 most likely in the rage of 14k to 16k with the possibility or seeing in the 13k range.

The only thing I really like about the newer frame design is the wider rear tire and the cleaner back end. I think it would be cheaper for me just to get a fender kit and change the back end but I haven't seen an after market rear fender that I like as much as the stock.
I also have not ridden a bike with the new frame design. I am avoiding that because it might be too much temptation.
You said you are never happy with what you have well stop the torture and go buy the new one you know you are going to
