hey guys! have a 09 roadie and changed over to the heritage bars right after I got it. The original bars really caused some shoulder issues and aggrevated an old football neck injury.) After surgery last year (titanium plate connecting 3 vertabre in my neck) it is better but would still like to find some bars about 2 inches taller and 2 inches back toward me. Any ideas? I am not really a fan of the TALL ape hangers as such but 2 + 2 would be great. Also, would I need to replace clutch and brake cables (non abs). Thanks
I run Wold-1 model 517 bars on Hester. VERY comfortable, especially on extended rides. The look isn't for everyone, but it is for me and I value function over form. Ran my wiring internally to clan up the look and and I didn't have to change any cables.
These are WO502Bs. They are 12.5" tall. Like Scott said in his post, these are not for everyone but if everyone tired...they would be surprized how comfortable they are. I'm not a "ape" guy but just got tired of swapping bars every few months trying whatever low mount solution I could find. So far I have had the 10" ape (WO515), black heritage bars, and KW +2 sweepers. These new bars are finally where I need them to stop my back and shoulder pain. With my hands and arms straight out from my shoulders I can finally kick back and stretch my legs out. The wrist angle is excellent. Apes may look funny to some but they are comfortable as heck. I've actually gotten good feedback on the "look" which kinda surprised me. Doesn't matter if they look silly though. I'm keeping them.
This will probably muddy the waters rather than clear them . . .
I had Khrome Werks +2 sweepers on my last Road Glide. I just put Wild 1s 12" Outlawz on my new RG.
The sweepers were lower but had more pullback. The wrist angle was just about the same with both bars, neutral is the best way to describe it.
The WOs have less pullback but they are taller which takes a lot of strain off the shoulder. I have an old injury to my left shoulder which would get aggravated by reaching down and forward for the stock bars.
Here are some pics. There's also a video link in my signature.
I found a set of the Khrome Werks bars that sets the hand grips at a little more bend so my wrist angle is more relaxed, i.e. palms more toward each other. This relieved numbness in my wrist that I experienced with the stock bars and the Heritage bars.
I've an `05 RG (pretty much the same ergonomics) and have tried:
Code:
Bar PN Comment
RG stock bar 56571-98 had to lean forward too much
Heritage Chrome 56623-98 best of the HD lot
Wide Glide Chrome 56079-93T uncomfortable, not really clear why
Custom Handlebars-Road Glide 56570-98 horrible, 'slight buckhorn' my a$$
KhromeWerks Wide Sweepers 300504 still on, but only marginally better than Heritage
