OK, my experience with DOT 5 fluid is that I thought DOT 5.1 was the same!
My Motoring store people were unable to inform me of the consequence's of mixing the two, bless them!
DOT 4 and 5.1 are the same animal and and if you mix it with the DOT 5, all sorts of problems occur.
The fluid jelly-fies and you have to flush out all the the pipes, and remove all the caliper seals and renew, biggest mistake I made in 35 years of motorcycling! Best way to see what fluid is in the pot, is to mix some in a container with the new fluid and see what happens!

Agreed, although specify when you buy the kit that you are changing to Dot 4 or you will be given the wrong seals
