Keep getting a U1097 code
I keep getting this code every 2 - 3 weeks. "Loss of speedometer serial data to ECM"
I bought the bike in Dec last year and it still has an extended warranty until July 2012.
I'll know when I'm getting it because when I go to start the bike it will not turn over, no fuel pump, all lights work, after a couple of tries turning the ignition on and off it will start and the security red key indicator will stay on for about 10 seconds and go off, riding down the road the radio will act funny, shut off and not come back on for 5 or 10 minutes then work fine. We trouble shot wires this past weekend, reading through the schematic in the book it had us checking the radio and the security controler circuits.
Looking throught the paper work I got with the bike I noticed that the radio and the security controler have already been replace. This leads me to believe that the issue has been there in the past and obviously wasn't fixed. I don't mind taking it into the shop but would rather fix it myslf and not have to deal with the dealer. I put this out to all to see if anyone else had this issue or a similar one in the past. Thanks for any assistance. Happy Holidays.

Just my opinion, but after having to get my 2011 main wiring harness replaced (part alone retails for 800.00) I would suggest sucking it up and taking it to the shop if it is under warranty. Electrical problems are demons as the time it takes to diagnose can be considerable. Best to have the diagnosis done and documented under warranty so you don't have a huge expense later.

TT - Thanks for the input. While I wait on other input I will put the bike back together and when the roads are dry ride it and see if the code comes back, when and if it does I'll bring it in. The only good side of this is that the weather sucks and for the most part it's not really riding weather. (ice and wet salty roads)
