Close Call
I think you are absolutly right there Eyspy. Ya gotta accept the fact that ridin a scooter in traffic is hazardous. It sure does get ya miffed when someone cuts ya off, but that's our society. If ya chase em down and it turns out to be some adolescent on a cell phone, yer lookin at jail time by just theatening them. If ya chase anybody else down, ya stand a real good chance of being charged with assault and battery with intent. The court wouldn't care if the yuppy cut you off half a mile back on the road. That's not the issue. They just see it as, ya stomped some cage driver.
I agree with the defensive driving. I always allow ample room between myself and the vehicle ahead of me. I normally travel at a the speed limit or a little below...Here's the turd...Some idiot starts honking at me a few months ago when I'm slowing to make a right turn ( he must have been in some big a$$ hurry even though the left lane was open), as I complete the turn I look over shoulder and some punk is giving me the finger. Funny part is, he's about 13 years old. Needs a trip to the woodshed like the old man would have given me for doing less.
Well I gave the one finger salute to a guy last Friday Night. He ended up parking up the hill from me and came down to ask me what my problem was........Let's put is this way. He was a dumb ***. I am about 2x his size and 40 years old. He was about 60. He comes UP to me and intrudes in my space. When someone does that to me they better be ready to go. I am lucky to not be in jail right now........All I wanted him to do was hit me and I would have laid him out. Really BAD day at work and I was ready to blow! Scarey now that I look back on it. My wife was begging him to leave as she knew I would let lose on him.
I share your frustration and I feel my pain from a recent accident. I'm back riding again and just today I had an As@#ole pull right in front of me with his RIDING MOWER!!! Can you believe it! He pulled right down his driveway and into the street, backwards nontheless. I'm lucky I was able to swerve around him and he's lucky a cage wasn't coming. That got my heart pumping. I'm really starting to get gun shy.

Very often, they simply do not see us. This is the default expectation you should operate under when riding. Expect that they do not see you and take appropriate precautionary action. Worked for me so far in 28 years of street riding.

Any of us that have been riding long enough have many stories to tell about the idiot cagers. The other day I was riding to work. I took off from a light and there was noboby behind me and a second later this idiot in VW is on my tail. This guy followed me until I got on the highway. He passes me on the entrance lane and he is screaming an yelling at me. As I see him going down the highway he is cutting in and out of lanes. Cutting people off, no signals. I try to ignore these people. One time I was at a light and this kid pulls up to me and starts taunting me. If I was closer I would have kicked his doors in. I think cagers don't take motorcycles seriously as a vehicle like a car. Alot of times cagers won't give you a full lane of travel. During the riding season there is a public service message that is on the radio aimed at cagers saying to respect motorcyles and treat them like any other vehicle on the road.
dchoran,
A headlight modulator continuously switches the headlight from low to high on a specific short (seconds) interval when low beam is selected. I think they're legal in all 50 states.
