Hello, while wating for my house to sell im researching my next bike. I really like the Bad Dad custom style. What would be the best model to start with? Fat Boy, Roadking, Raod glide, etc? Im thinking avalibility of aftermarket parts, custom items etc such as streched bags, fairing ride modificationa etc. Fuel Injection or Carb model best? 5 speed or 6? What years would be the best to look for? Thanks for your input! Drew C from SC.
So you're looking at picking up something pre-owned? There are so many options. The Road King IMO is the most versitile for customization. You can do just about anything to it. Add an aftermarket quick-detach fairing for the long haul, stretched bags and fender. tourpak too. You can make a pretty cool hot-rod of a bike! There are many companies out there building stuff everyday for us.
If you think you'd want a bike with a perminent fairing, get a Street Glide.
Also, I would recommend looking at models from '07 and beyond. You get a 96 cu in motor and 6 speed PLUS hydraulic cam chain tensioners.
Every time I think my Road King is just where I want it to be I see something else I have to have. Easily the most customizable touring bike as it can be dressed up with as mentioned, fairing and so much more, then stripped down to more resemble a bar hopper.
I bought an extremely low mile 07 FLHT standard for a steal. I've had a blast doing a streetglide style to it. Doesn't cost near what a comparable streetglide does and I get to do what I prefer.
