Default Voltage Regulator Compatability?

I noticed that the voltage regulator on my Brother's '09 SG has shorter stand off legs than the one on my '06 SG. Just curious if that is the only difference, or if the electronic plug connections and functions are the same. Will the newer regulator work in my '06?

Why, do you need to replace the regulator on your 06? And if so, why not just go to the dealership and tell them you need a replacement? What am I missing?

Your stator and leads are the same part number (I looked them up) so wiring is the same and I would expect function to be the same as well.
I don't know about other differences. Some bikes may require the taller legs.
