I'm new to this forum today, been a long time viewer though. I have a 2010 FLHX and was wanting to get a driver and passenger backrest (also I'll need the hardware to attach to bike). I want chrome and low profile. Does anyone know what the HD part numbers are? Or any aftermarket kit/brand that looks good that's easy on the wallet? Thanks
If you go to your local HD dealer website and search under accessories for your year and model it will show you the part numbers and price! There are several to choose from! There a couple hundred for a rider backrest and mounting kit! I just put one on mine! I lucked out because they were having a 20% off sale!
Hope that helps! Welcome to the forum!
Welcome! I have a 2010 SG also... the H-D docking hardware for the passenger back rest is down right ugly!!! I had my dealer install the H-D kit on mine and when I went to look at it I told them to take the ugly crap off. I then found this kit by fatbaggers.com. Sooooooo much better! And the cost is about the same. Here is a picture off of their website showing the side by side comparison.
Also with the H-D kit... it is very easy and likely to smack your bag lids on the docking hardware while opening and closing your bags... dont have that concern with the fatbaggers kit.

Welcome to the forum, OP!
IDK, I have both the rider & passenger HD backrests on my 08 SG and there is NO problem with clearances on the bag lids or anything. I can't imagine that the design changed that much. As for the "look" of the hardware, my passenger pillion stays on all the time (Sundowner seat) and you can't even notice the HD docking hardware. I think that becomes more of an issue when you don't have the passenger pillion on (like in ICIBUY's picture), but I don't know a whole lot of people who change out their seats when they go 2-up.
BTW, I still consider my rider backrest the best aftermarket investment I've made so far. The difference in comfort is HUGE.

The design changed dramatically in 09 when they changed the frame, fender, etc on the touring bikes!

I trade out the big a$$ seat and backrest my wife needs (likes) for the stock seat and no backrest EVERY time I ride solo. I can't stand all that stuff on the bike.

So if I go with the fatbaggers setup will the HD backrest for the passenger click into their setup or do you have to buy their backrest? Thanks
As to a riders backrest, have to give my liking to the adjustable one from HD. Have had it on my last two Ultras and really like it. And nice to be riding and reach down to adjust the rest to get a different position at will.
