Question Dropping your forks

Hey guys and gals.. good morning!
My question is a simple one, I hope...

A friend of mine has a Street Glide and the front end was dropped a little over 2 inches.. I was under the impression you should only drop it an inch.. He wants to put a 21" tire on there.. should it still be dropped 2 inches? He had the Arnott shocks installed.. does that make a difference?
I think NOT!

Thanks!
Cami

My bike is dropped 2" in the front and 1" (same as street glide) and with the 21" in the front and an 18" in the rear the front and rear drops are nearly equal meaning the frame is sitting at the same angle as it did from the factory. Rides great.

Just be careful your fender doesnt hit the triple tree cover when the shocks are compressed. I think it will. I got the advice to use the heavy fluid to prevent this.
Good luck

Your4 bike has 4.7" of travel called stroke. Hd uses shorter damper rods to reduce the stroke as well as stiffer springs to slow the bike down faster in a shorter distance. I measured less than 3/4" on a kit lables 1" drop by HD. This is what you get.

The other kits do the same thing by increasing the top out spring length by raising up the piston inside of the fork. This also reduces stroke and requires stiffer springs.

For anyone who states that his 21" thin sidewall with 2" of reduces stroke (which leaves 2.7" of stroke including top out spring travel) bagger rides good, I would say that that person does not have a clue how a bike should ride.

I have an 06 SG and I put 18 inch wheels on the front and rear. I lowered the front 1 inch. Would I need to lower the fronthxt 2 inches to make it level? I am thinking about getting the progressive monotubes.

Thank you. Finally...a guy that knows what the hell he's talking about.

To the OP with the friend's Street Glide: Minimal suspension travel + reduced ground clearance + bicycle tire in front = lousy ride and poor handling. A stock SG's suspension is bad enough, but dropping the front end 2 inches too? Your friend must have a back and kidneys made of steel.
