got a trim ring part#69627-99.
there is a gap on the bottom half is this normal,or am i a retard.

It's normal. You can try & put a clamp on the trim ring while tightening the screw, but be careful not to strip it.

Exactly. Once I read the thread posted here I went to Harbor Freight and picked up a couple of cheap clamps and it worked pretty well. Not perfect but it looks good.

Common complaint - I have managed to mostly eliminate the gap by tightening it up over a period of weeks. Ride a few days than tighten it and so on. I think it sort of settles in and stretches a little.

I have done this on my last 2 bikes and it is hardly noticeable.

I just bought one that had a 1/2 inch gap, brought it back to Harley and they said it was a common problem and gave me a different size. Fit perfect.

I finally give up on fixing the gap on mine.

Short of doing major mods this is the best I could do. Look close at the pic.

Its a shame HD won't do a better job with the fit on these trim rings.

This has been a problem for years. They just refuse to address it.
