Just bought a new SG with power pack on it. Traded in an 06 Street Bob on it, will be 1st touring bike Having some decorative changes made will pick up on weds 3/23.
Headed to Winslow Arizona on it from western Pa next thursday. 1900 mile break in ride.
Other then baby it sum because only has 1 mile on it ATM, do i need to vary speed on it on a long run since new and keep the RPM's low at least for 1st 1000 miles or so
Any suggestions or any issues i need to be watching for.
Well that will be a good break in ride. Usually they tell you nothing over 3000 rpms and vary the speed for the first 500 miles then you should be good after that. But you might hear different from others. Congrats and be safe.
For my break in I took it very easy on it for the first 500 miles, varied the speed and kept it under 55 and under 4000 rpm, back country roads only, tranny is also breaking so didn't use 6th speed, after 500 miles I took it over 55 up to 70 back down to 65, increased the rpms, you get the idea. Changed the oil at 500 miles and then again at 1000 miles and she purrs like a kitten. Congrats on the new bike, you are going to love it and have a safe and great ride!
I just noticed it has one mile. How did the service dept. do a test ride? just my 2 cents
Actually i know the answer to that having recently toured the York plant after assembly the bikes are put on a dyno type thing and run for a bit and checked out. After that they hook up the speedo cables.
Also that 1 mile was out of the crate they have to do some changes i ordered and the inspection stuff i am sure when i pick it up it will have more.
