I am planning to change cam chain to gears with 510G S&S gear driven cams( Part #: 2007-2510) on my Road King with stock engine. No plans for big bore kits. What else (parts) do I need for this job?
I have got 28k on the king. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jay.
I'm putting 26g's on mine, but I believe yours will already come with the gears on the cams. My list is as follows:
Andrews 26g cams
S&S four gear set
S&S cam installation kit
HD lifters x 4
HD SE adjustable pushrod kit
1 exhaust port gasket
2 lifter cover gaskets
new o-rings for oil pump and holes
I'm going with the Baisley Spring
renting the bearing tools
And may I add, use the Andrews gear drive which I believe is provided to Andrews by S&S. The reason for going through Andrews is if the specs. on the gear are off, Andrews will furnish the proper bearing to bring everything in to spec., No Charge. I know cause they did this for me and that's what I attribute a perfectly quiet gear drive to. My gears actually were in spec but just barely. Now maybe S&S would do this also, but I know for certain Andrews will.

That's understandable. When the shop did my cams/bb I was going to use adjustable push rods but the machanic convinced me the stock PR's where stronger, being one piece. Plus they can't come unscrewed. If I weren't removing the cyclinders/heads etc., I probably would go to the adjustables also.

i'm very impressed with my S&S 510Gs after getting a great MAP from Fuelmoto. I added adjustable pushrods when i replaced my cam chain tensioners so when i added the gears in was a snap. Don't forget heating the cam support plate and freezing the bearings and cams so the old bearings will almost fall out and the new parts will go together easily gently using a rubber or brass hammer.
Are you changing the lifters because of the original wear pattern?
Barry
I don't necessarily have to change the lifters, I could just put them back in their original locations, but it is cheap insurance to change them out now while I'm in there.
