Just put the Bub 7 True Dual 2" pipes on ~400miles ago. They were brand new in the box, and the chrome tips are already flaking.
I would not be so upset - but I can see it starting on the pipes themselves where the tips connect.
I am very displeased with the chrome quality to say the least.
While I am at it: They were a bear to even install on to the head pipes, at least I will know they will not leak.
Running true-dual (2") - they are quite loud. A bit raspy (almost drag like).
I really liked the idea that I could run slash up or down - but carbon leaks from the bolt holes dirtying the underside (which can be quite noticeable when on the stand).
On the other hand - a very noticeable gain in Tq & HP. The engine spins much quicker and doesn't lug at any position.
Anyone have a recommendation for another 2" muffler? Bassani and Cycle Shack have a selection - any other worth looking at? Perhaps something with a bit more grunt than bark?
You're not the first I've heard complain about the tips flaking, however I love mine and can't think of any other pipes I'd rather have. My tips are not flaking yet, knock on wood, but if or when they do, I'll just have them replated. I haven't notice the carbon leaks on mine that you mentioned.

Put my Bub 7's on last August, bike sat all winter, tips were flaking bad this spring. Bub would NOT warranty them. I pulled the tips off, sandblasted them, and painted with black 500 degree satin black engine enamel... so far so good, and not a horrible look. Bub's will gladly sell you new tips for $105.00.
Bub's DOES sell quiet baffles for these pipes, I got a set, and they quiet them down considerably. however, it changes the tone somewhat to something I didn't care for. I just ordered some fiberglass packing, going to try wrapping the stock baffles in fiberglass to see if i can knock the decibels down a little while keeping the nice low tone I love about these pipes.
All in all, I don't think I would buy these again. When its time for these to go, I will probably go with V&H headpipes and some other slip on, probably bassanni's.
I'll probably jinx myself with this post, but I haven't had any flaking problems with my Bub 7 slip-ons and they were put on two years and 10K miles ago. I'm a clean freak so I always clean the soot off the end caps after a ride with a wet towel. I don't know if this is the trick or not, but based on how many are experiencing problems, I'll keep cleaning them.

not fer nuttin but I think thats about the most **** thing I ever heard... but it's your bike you can certainly do what you want. the flaking issue on mine was on the OUTSIDE of the tips where they meet the mufflers. I had zero issues inside where they get coated with soot.
my guess is a bad batch of chrome last year sometime, but that's only a guess. if my black paint doesn't work out I'll send the tips to Chromemasters next winter and then I'll know they are done right.
I have Bub7 True Duals on mine as well. Definitely no chrome peeling, they are black. Initially I thought they were a bit on the loud side, but after a few 100 miles, I love the sound of them now!
