Thanks guys for all the advice. I bought the standard backrest and mount. I installed it once and adjusted it once and I was good to go. I cant imagine ever needing to change it. I can honestly say I had no idea what I was missing. The backrest is an awesome addition. I actually feel more in control of the bike, sounds weird but it seems I don't slide around in the seat as much.
I have the standard. I have never felt like I needed to change the position while riding. Regardless of which one you get it's a great investment and will help on the long rides.
HELP PLEASE!I bought an adjustable backrest bracket off eBay for my 2002 Ultra. Being it is used did not come with any instructions or hardware. I know normally on HDs web site they have instructions for most their products but not the adjustable rider backrest. Main thing I need to know is where and how the lever mounts. Does any one have the instructions showing this? A scan or PDF file? I picked up the mount, cable and lever for under $90 shipped. Thanks!
Scanner aint working but I got good pics of the 7 pages of instructions that came with my kit. How much hardware is it missing, there should be an angle bracket that mounts the adjustment lever to the left side of the frame just below the front quarter of the seat. If the bracket is missing, the lever can be mounted through the large hole in the plate section of the frame directly behind the motor; it makes the install practically invisible but it is a little akward to reach down and in between the motor and frame to make adjustments on the fly.
For the alternate mount position the bolts in the lever housing will span just to the onside of the large hole in the frame, you kinda wedge it in but it does mount up solid. Oops, this only works if you are running a 2:1 exhaust.
