I have the adjustable and it works well.

Search other threads, most with the non adjustable do not like it.

If you have the extra dollars, spend them, or wait until you do.

I have the fixed, seem to be fine for me, the mounting bracket has different holes so you can set them where you want them. I don't use them for trips under 100 mi.

I installed the fixed rider backrest Monday night and made a 400 mile, round-trip to the in-laws Tuesday. As mentioned previously, it has four positions on the mounting bracket and can be further adjusted (fine tuned) easily via a set screw in the back using a 3/16 hex. I missed the adjustment at first and was ready to throw the whole thing away when I arrived 'cuz what felt good in the garage had me riding the tank 50 miles down the road. Backed it off two positions and rode home in comfort. I suspect that most people with the adjustable versions don't do much adjusting once its set correctly (kinda like a car seat in a cage), but if you're just looking to spend extra $$......to each his own.
Happy Turkey Day!

Haven't purchased yet, but an "In-Flight" adjustable rider backrest is definitely on my "List". I gotta think that adjustable is the smart way to go on this. On longer rides it must be beneficial to have the ability to make a “change” on the fly simply for change sake. Kinda like moving back and forth between floorboards to highway pegs. Seems like $60 bucks is a small price to pay for the option.

I must be in the minority because my fixed backrest works great! You just have to set it to the right position, which does take a bit longer than the adjustable (obviously!)

Anyone have their rider complain that the backrest digs into their legs or is there an adjustment that can minimize this. I have a '08 RKC and the wife sat on one with me at the dealer with an adjustable backrest and wasn't sure she liked it. I thought it was great.

I passed on the fixed back rest and went straight to the adjustable one. I do occasionally change the back rest on trips. Sometimes just a slight adjustment on the move makes a difference while riding. Save the money and buy and adjustable.

Either one is fine but since I switch back and forth between my Sundowner and a solo seat I opted for the non-adjustable and it works great for me.

It can also go up and down in the bracket. That might help with passenger comfort.
