I have a 2011 Limited . I went and filled up expecting to ride but made it about 100ft and no throtle. It would crank but no throtle.I pushed it off road and turned it off and tried again. I turned the run button on and off as well but nothing. It would crank but still no throtle. The engine light came on too. I waited for son to come pick me and bike up but when he got there it started working again. 1900 miles .......whats up?
This happened to me twice. I think it's from hitting the starter before the check engine light goes out when the ignition first is turned on. I pulled the main fuse, replace it, then mine started and I had throttle.
I have an 09 ultra classic and it did the same thing. Turns out is was the connector that plugs in to the throttle behind the air cleaner. The dealer replaced the pins in the connector and put dielectric grease on them under warranty. No problems since.
That happened to me on my first ride home with my brand new 2010 SG. Gassed up and forgot to tighten the gas cap till it clicked. Bike went into the "limp home mode", no throttle. Cleared right up once I tightened the cap. Man, was I freaking out.
This happened to me with my '11 SG last Friday. Filled up with gas, started her up and everything seemed fine except for a fast idol of about 1400 RPM. Twisted throttle and max was 2200 RPM. Pushed it out of the gas bay and called Harley. Service Mgr said let's try this. Turn off run/stop switch, hold throttle all the way backwards, cycle ignition off/on 3 times, wait 30 to 60 seconds and then start it up. It worked and no further problem in over 700 miles during the weekend. What a relief. Ride safe.
