Default Kickstand issue solved!

Hello,

I know it's been discussed here many times, but I thought it would help many here....

After lowering my 2010 FLHX, I've always WISHED that the bike would lean more when parked. It was bad enough so that I had trouble parking in certain places due to the lack of lean angle when on the kickstand. After reading many, many post, I tried to get the old "defective" bracket off of a 2009 Ultra, but no luck. I even called HD custormer service but they just kept on telling me that I cannot purchase it (PN50078-09).

After looking at the picture posted by one of the members which showed the two brackets side by side (50078-09 vs 50096-09) I could see the difference but the difference was very small.... So, I decided to modify the bracket myself! All it took was a Dremel tool w/ metal griding tip and less than 30 min. I just shaved off the bracket so that the kickstand would move more to give more lean angle when it's parked.

I shaved off only a little bit and I was pleasantly surprised the difference it made!!

It was such an easy mod and I felt so stupid that I didn't even think of doing it a lot sooner! lol

I used to be into CUSTOMIZING so much but I've gotten so used to just "BUY" the parts and bolt them on.... (not a true customizing, I supposed....). I remember when I was a teenager, all the custom parts were labeled as "UNIVERSAL FIT" which meant you have to modify to make them fit on your bike! lol.

I got so excited when I decied to just modify the original parts and forgot to take "before' and "after" pictures.... But it DID make enough of a difference that my girlfriend noticed the differece in the lean angle RIGHT AWAY.

I would HIGHLY recommend doing this to your kickstand bracket, cuz it's so easy and SAVES MONEY which can be used for other parts

I am trying picture in my head what you did as I am very interested I can not turn my wheel to the right when on kickstand as it almost falls over. I have to watch how and where I park. Can you take a picture? or maybe I will get it when I play in garage tomorrow.

I think I get it. You shave off the bottom of the bracket?

Guess I accomplished the same thing in changing shocks from 13" to 12". The only thing that got shaved was my wallet.
