Default Engine temps

I have noticed that my engine is running a little hotter this year, the only thing that i have changed with the engine this year is the oil filter.
What are the chances that this is causing the motor to run hotter?? Any oil guru's out there??

The filter really shouldn't be causing a problem. What kind of oil are you using. A 'real' synthetic will lower oil temps. Amsoil,red-line,motul,royal purple are all true synthetics. Mobil 1,castrol and penzoil are group 3 and are derived from conventional basestocks.

It's not impossible, if you think its the filter why don't you just put a new one on and see. It was really hot this summer, oil temp goes up with the ambient temp. You never said how much hotter.

Does your bike have an oil temp gauge or does it just feel like it's running hotter?

I dropped my oil temp gauge, now it reads 200 degrees all the time, problem solved. You should try it.

Oh alright, if you're gonna drag it out of me.

Soon as you give up the temperature value that you are concerned about, you might get some decent input.

about 5 to 10 degrees. I'm not concerned, just curious if it could make a difference, running around 260 on the interstate at about 75 mph for 100 miles!! By the way tag your it!! Lol

as long as you are using a motocycle oil filter you will be fine. some folks get creative and try to put mobil 1 M-104 car filters on their bikes and run into issue becuase of flow rate, bypass, etc.

would an older bike run hotter than a new bike.....don't know....would worn rings let more blow by into the case rather than sending it out as exhaust thru the pipes....
