I just bought a 2012 Street Glide in the custom orange color yesterday. This is my first touring Harley bike and have a few questions. My wife and I ride two-up about 70% of the time and was wondering what air pressure you guys run in the shocks. We weigh about 325# together. Also noticed we were getting alot of air in our face from the stock windshield and was wondering what some of you use. The stock seat seems to be ok at best and may be looking for an alternative for that as well. Can the passenger pegs be lowered at all? I know I will have plenty of questions later but do appreciate any input you guys can give us.
You can try different air pressure settings, but you may never be happy with the Street Glide stock 12" shocks.
Most (especially riding 2-up) go with an upgraded shock.
Note: Do a search on shocks, and you'll find enough reading to keep you busy for a month.
I am using the Harley Premium Ride Adjustable (13").
As harley0711 mentioned, the passenger pegs have 3 different height settings. That is covered in the owners manual as well.
I replaced the factory pegs with floorboards, and have them in the lowest setting.
The factory windscreen is good at looking cool, but doesn't offer much in the way of wind protection.
There are lots of options to correct that. I went with a 8" Clearview (with recurve). Much better than the factory one.
If the wife rides with you do both of you a favor and get a better seat. The stock one is way too narrow for her. I have gone with the Mustang Low and we are both happy. I have the standard Harley 10" windshield and it works great. You'll love the bike.
May I suggest and Ultra seat? It may be ugly but they are sure comfortable. But if you want styling then I have no answer for you. Adding a backrest might hide some of that ugly.
Yes they do make adjustable passenger footpegs. But your back legs/thighs might hit them when you put your feet down and come to a stop.
Congrats on your new ride. GREAT COLOR!!!! Try a seat from a Ultra. There's a lot of them around to sample. Some HD dealerships have a "FIT SHOP" where you can sample different seats.
