Default lurch forward

Hey all.. Question for you guys. Does your bike lurch forward when you start it in gear? Mine seems to lurch forward a couple of inches. Before anybody says adjust clutch, I just did when I changed my primary fluid. It did seem to help but it still wants to lurch when I am doing a cold start. If I start the bike in nuetral it is fine. BUT when I go to drop it into first it "clunks" then off I go. It seems if the bike is warmed up I have no issues at all. Maybe its just a HD thing????

Work the clutch lever a couple of times before starting. That will help to "release" the clutch from the trans.

I have a 2011 limited and on a cold start the "clunk" is so bad and noisy when shifting to 1st. that I have gone to starting in 1st. gear and then I do get a lunge or surge. After warm up I do not have any problems. I have tried working the clutch lever several times before shifting but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

I try not to do a cold start in gear. When hot it's only a small amount.

Unless on a hill I start in neutral with the clutch lever pulled in, then release it while it warms up and I get my gear on.

Then while sitting on the bike it's clutch in and let it roll back a couple of feet.
Most times, the change to first gear doesn't generate a big clunk-- and sometimes no clunk at all....
I don't like to hear the 'clunk'....

To me starting in gear with a cold engine puts a lot larger load on the starter. Hold the clutch in for 30 seconds or so while things warm up really helps the "Clunk" and to me much easier on the starter. I agree got to get the clutch plats freed up. Also you can try rolling the bike backward in gear with the clutch pulled in. That will show you how much drag is on those clutch plates.

07 Ultra about 55,000 on the clock. Has done it since the day I bought it. I hope the clutch was adjusted correctly when it was brand new
