Default lowering kit

I just tried to install a lowering kit that goes from 1-3". The problem is the rear axle does not allow the rear wheel to go by the exhaust pipes. Is this a new problem for the 2012 electra glide classic?

On My 2011 FLHTK the pipes are below the axle. If I lower it the pipes move away from the axle.

Pipes may have to be "fixed" with a ballpeen hammer

sometime the hanger brackets can be altered to space the mufflers out far enough. like an intermediate bracket- if used it'll need to be checked for breakage with the vibes

with bike on lift, remove shocks and move the wheel and swingarm up and down in it's arc and see what clearance issues there may be. any wiring inside the fender to get chewed up? any bolts coming through the fender that'll eat or groove the tire.

do this with the bike strapped down so it doesn't fall off the lift

never be surprised that intended modifications require further mods

I lowered mine with a kit as well. I took it off a few weeks ago because i got tired of my bike bottoming out. it installed very easy in almost no time and nothing touched or hit and looked cool. But, with another spinal surgery coming up i'd rather bring it back to stock height and a smoother ride.

CEP

I had mine lowered all the way and read a post that doing so will allow the tire to rub against the tail/brake light wires under the fender, so I put mine in the middle position. That lowered the bike about 3/4" and I haven't noticed any bottoming out or difference in the handling.

I have had two previous back surgeries, and a third 3 months ago when I had my lower back fused. Obviously, I'm not riding now but if all goes well I will be back in the saddle by December. I would highly recommend avoiding this surgery, at least that is my opinion now...... ask me next January

Hi,
Vertically challenged i am thinking of fitting a lowering kit and have 2 questions;
1. does it upset the handling if you only lower the rear of the bike.
2. are all the "kits" basically the same (why some 2 and some 3" kits?)

Thanks everyone.
