Default Engine ping

Question, I ride a 2006 ultra se with about 2,500 miles on it... my engine will make a ping noise when I attempt to gain quick speed in a small amount of time/distance, is this normal? I check my oil on a regular basis and dont seem to burn any (except 1 qt first 1,500). Thanks for any help.

What octane gas are you using? Low octane gas will cause your motor to ping.

I use 87... I bet your right though! Now that you mention it, I and two other bikes went down hard 6 months ago. The other two bikes were lost and I was without mine for 5 months. Before, I used 93 and never heard a ping, since I have had it back, I've been using a lower octane. I'll change that... do you think there was any engine damage? Thanks for the insight.

Doesn't the owners manual say to use premium unleaded? I have an '06 RK and mine does.

Use a higher octane, and you might try down shifting, if you lug the engine and are using the lower octanes it will cause "pinging"
