Drilling 2012 Muffler?
I want to keep the stock mufflers on my 2012 Street Glide as I like the style as well as the tone when you open up the throttle. However, I would like just a bit more volume.
I took off one of the mufflers to have a look inside and was pleasantly surprised by the design, totally different from what was on my old Evo FLH. From the inlet side, they are like a set of Rineharts...hollow with perforated baffling around the circumference. The only blocking baffle is shaped like a cone and if you look at the muffler from the outlet end with a flashlight you'll see what I mean.
I picked up another set of '12 mufflers cheap that I'm going to experiment with, as I didn't want to screw up my original ones. My thoughts are to drill a small size hole in the center of that cone and work my way up from there until i get the sound level/tone I want.
Has anyone already done this on a 2011/12 Street Glide (or other touring muffler).
Appreciate the input.
John

Are you planning on keeping the cat? We used to cut the tail end off of the old Evo mufflers and pull the whole baffle out. Lots more sound! Of course that was carb not EFI. And of course we had no idea what we were doing. Sounded cool though.

yes someone already did it on this forum...I think it was on a 11 though...if I remember correctly he cut the weld on the inside back end of the muffler (I guess with a dremmel tool) and pulled out the short baffle (looked about 5 inches long) which left the baffles all along the outer edge of the muffler...I think he only did the right one though, when he was done it looked a lot like the inside of the other performance mufflers ( jackpot, rush etc.)...it looked really easy to do...

I tried to drill out an older set of stock FLHT pipes and it worked.... Kinda....
IMHO I thought the stock pipes drilled out sounded kind of "tinny" once they were drilled out. The sound was better for sure but tinny.
I ended up using them untill I could get a set of Bassani slip on's and was much more pleased. I now have a set of V&H high out-put's and they also sound great. No tinny sound to either of those pipes.
I would love to hear your take on the OEM pipes once you have them drilled.

+1 on that for sure.
I took a 1 1/2 hole saw and cut mine out then they fall out the other end. Key is kook in the outlet end should be a piece of pipe about 4-5 inches in length squeezed at the end looks like a plus sign. Before and after Photos. just make sure they look like this on the inside otherwise the baffle runs all the way through These sound great with the CAT out by the way

I have an 09 ultra with stock pipes, took a dremel tool and cut just inside the weld on the exit end of muffler, baffles slid right out on both mufflers..Sounds better, but saving money up for reinharts or V & H someday..
