Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Short Box and Street Glide
Anybody ever put their FLHxxxx in the back of a 04 or newer Toyota Tacoma Double Cab with the short box?
I measured the box from front to end of tailgate and I get 81". My wheel from front to contact patch on back is 77"...Looks like it will fit, but I want some real world feedback.
Anybody?

I haven't personally done it, but from what I recall the Tacoma is known for its weak tailgate which bends when enough weight is placed upon it (or "tacoing", if you will). I know of two people who have bent their tailgates just putting sportbikes in the back.
You would need to use at the very least a sheet of 3/4" plywood to help disperse some of the weight.
I'm not sure even if that would be enough. You need something to carry the weight, not the tailgate.

a friend of mine used to own a metric bike shop - as said before , he bent his tailgate with a loss less weight than a touring bike

From cab wall to end of tailgate is 81". Contact patch to contact patch is 77''. That gives you 4" of space difference.
Figure, the contact patch is in the center of the wheel. If you have a 16" front wheel, and a 16" rear wheel, that's 8" in front of the front wheel, and 8" behind the rear wheel. Total, 16". That's about 12" too short, since you only have 4" to spare.
And that's just the length part of it. It's your bike and your truck....No way in hell I would put that much weight in the bed, let alone more than half on the tailgate.
Rent a motorcycle trailer from U-haul. They have specific ones just for bikes. That's what I did when I had my Taco. The tailgate is tall and wide on the trailer, and serves as a ramp. You can get the bike into the trailer easily. It has a wheel chock for the front tire. Then just strap her down and go....
