canceling extend warranty
#101
I have a Sportster and Sportsters are very easy to work on so I do basic maintenance myself but I like having the extended warranty for 2 reasons:
1. Parts are free (just had stator and voltage regulator replaced under warranty. Parts total was $400.00 and the parts are OEM HD parts)
2. HD dealer warranties their work for 90 days so if the tech screws up it’s considered a “bring back” and the dealer has to fix/correct it and I don’t have to pay another $50.00
I honestly cannot see why anyone would not pay $800.00 to $1700.00 for 2-5 years of coverage that includes hotel, towing (and transportation home) on a $15-30k bike? Seems like a no brainer to me. I would not own a bike without some kind of a service plan. If the bike already has a 2 or 3 year fender to fender warranty then I would wait until that warranty is close to expiring and purchase a new 4 to 5 year ESP. Nothing lasts forever, parts wear out and things break. Eventually everyone will have something fail, it’s just a matter of time.
When my bike reaches 12 years or 75k miles (the cutoff for being able to purchase an extended service plan) I’ll trade it in on another bike and purchase a 5 year plan for the new bike.

And when I breakdown 1500 miles away from home??? If I don't carry a way to return my bike to a stock tune I'm "F" in more ways than one...….. If I am going to run an aftermarket tuner then I'll either cancel the ESP or void it. I am not playing these BS games.

If you’re traveling 1500 miles from home you might want to keep your tuner with you. My FP3 stays attached to the bike so I can read trouble codes, monitor sensors (like charge voltage and engine temp) and flash the bike if it breaks down. The FP3 uses my cell phone and I always carry my cell phone so it’s not an issue. Can remap/flash in seconds. Do it all the time.
