Latest winter project
2006 Street Glide. Last winter was the cam upgrade at @25K miles. Had to check the tensioners and just couldn't see opening it up w/o throwing cams in. Replaced the shoes, though the stock ones looked to have a lot of life left in them.
This winter I started the handle bar swap. Went with the 12.5" Khrome Werks 1 1/4" bagger apes. Using Magnum Shielding +6" cables. All torn down and the bars are mounted. Brake, Throttle, and Clutch cables mounted. Wires run internally. The 6" over cables are perfect. More than enough length.
WOW. what a difference in looks and comfort. Adjusting the bars and I could not really find a position that was not an 100% improvement over stock. No sore back on rides next summer -thats for sure. The FLHX looks freakin awesome with these bars to boot.
Did run into problem #1. The Magnum Shield upper brake line does NOT mount to the stock splitter. Have the new parts on order....wish I knew about this before hand but then again I have until March to finish. No where near the PITA of the forgotten bearing last winter...but thats another story.
I guess I will change the oil while I wait for parts and think about getting the rear tire off...The tire looks like a slick. Now one mentions the cam upgrade has a negative effect on tire life. Whoda thunk that?
