Default 2008 to 2009 street glide changes

Hello all,

Im in the market for a Street Glide and figured I would grab a used one. Ive seen a ton of 08 and 09s, my questions is...I know they changed the frame for the 09's, but will I be missing a big difference in riding and handling if I go with a 08? Just curious if dishing out the extra money is worth it. I got a guy offering a 09 for 16k.

Thanks

the 08's and earlier have dropped in value with the new frame.

I think the new frame is fantastic ( I waited on my '95 until last year as i didn't thing the newer models were worth the $). the rear air shocks are revalved for 09 and maybe better- I have a set of those on my bike. The 09 also have higher carrying capacity

if the motor is a 103 that was a 2K package so add that value

08 vs 09 -same front end, same motor, same tranny, same EFI

if you google 2009 model year technical forum pdf

you will find the dealer intro doc which goes over the changes from 08 to 09

16 is probably a good price.

10/2010 I paid 15K for my 09 FLHTC 6000 miles with paint, security, ABS ( a must I think) and cruise ( which I thought I'd never use but wouldn't want to be without.

check KBB.com for pricing, both trade in value and retail value...kinda 1/2 way between is a good private sale price. don't pay extra for mods and add ons unless they are exactly what you would want

yu probably know that the differences in the touring models is pretty much how much fiberglass ( ABS really) is or isn't hanging on them

2009 the electraglide standard ( FLHT) was still available, a great platform if you plan on doing a lot of custom changes ( the street glide ( FLHX) model is based on the "common" changes owners were doing to the standard- then tack on 3 grand

for my buck the ElectraGlide Classic ( FLHTC) is the value leader- with detachable tourpak and sleek seat is great in town- put on the tourpak and ultra seat for touring

Gearing different in 09. 07-08 gearing sucked!, they fixed it in 09.

i think the frame change which allows the bigger rear tire along with the gearing change makes choosing an '09 or later a better option if you can swing it.

The one IM looking at is in real nice condition with some extras. Not the pipes Id be looking for normally, just some slip ons. But 16k seems to be alot cheaper than what im finding on other sites. it has about 6k miles and cruise control. Do the ABD help that much? This one does not have them.

the abs is awesome- I figure the next time some douche pulls out in front of me, the abs will take care of the traction control while I can pick a clear spot to escape.

you should test ride a bike with abs.

when i did mine I got up to 55 and jammed on the binders...and stopped in almost 1/2 the distance I'd estimated based on my evo bagger.

the abs is also surprisingly great on dirt and gravel roads !

People did manage to ride without ABS for years lol. That being said I feel it's a worthwhile addition and will help your resale value.
