Default Do you want your electra to Glide?

Well guys here is my 2 cents worth..I have been trying to get a good ride out of my 09 EGS, which considering that my last ride was a 57 pan, rode pretty hard...I tried several shocks, and ended up with Howards 2-2a a huge improvement...I had put ricor intiminators in the front and liked them but while they were an improvement, never realized that I was still getting a bad ride from the Front end..

.Well , one of our members, Fabrik8r did the research, and published a mod here on his experiences modifying the intiminator, and it works..Bottom line, ditch the stock springs, use straight rate springs, and mod the intiminators to his spec and you will get a HUGE improvement in your ride. I have no horse in this race, but even as doubtful as I was, i tried it, and was very impressed with the results..In my opinion, this mod improved the front end even more than the ohlins improved the back end.

Fabrik8r was very helpful through this process, guiding me with my many questions..

Bottom line if you want to have your glide ride better than a 55 ford truck, it is possible....I just put 55 miles on the worst roads around, including 75 to 80 mph on the concrete freeway..It is only my opinion, but in my opinion, it was worth every dollar and hour it took......

PS for you street glide guys, the ohlin 2-2a shocks are the same lenght as street glide shocks but ride better than a stock Ultra, and when I did the front end mod, i chopped 3/4 of an inch of the front, so my EGS is fractionally lower than a street glide, but still rides way better than a stock ultra........

Can I get detailed instructions and specs from you? Will this mod work on my 97 Eglide or will I need adjustments to accomodate?

Thanx

it will work for you, you need ohlin shocks, from motorcycle metal, one set of intiminators from ricor, one set of fork springs from racetech, and then mod the intiminators as Fabrik8r describes, on his post, here titled how to improve your intiminators,,,,,If I had to do it over, i would do the front first , and the back second, as my budget allowed.....d

dstrat1, Very nice, you are the first to report. You did yours yourself by hand filing, so that's pretty cool. I have recently cut 3 sets on the mill for other members but I don't think they had a chance to try them yet. Hope there is more positive feedback in the future.

For me it was 100 for intiminators,110 for springs and 12 for shims.
Really cheap.yet to install. Hand file works fine. can't wait.
3-3s on the rear. Enjoy

For me , it was 670 for the first set of shocks, that did not work, plus 560 for the ohlins that did, 170, i think for the intiminators, 110 for the race tech springs, 840..not counting the first set of shocks........Basically what I am trying to get people to realize, is you can spend alot of money for stuff that is not much better than what you have, if you do not do your homework....

Fabrik8r has told most of us how you can really improve your ride with a hand file, and a set of intiminators, and is not ripping you off like most of the other vendors, and it works, and so do the Ohlins, in my opinion...I haven't tryed the progressives or the premium ride shocks, but for an extra 100 I would bet on Ohlins....

Your mileage may vary....
